Sounding like a concoction of Van Dyke Parks, Robert Wyatt and Aaliyah, Friend Roulette creates somewhat of an whimsical psychedelic chamber pop con cojones. With 2 drummers, violin, bass clarinet, ewi (electronic wind instrument) & the occasional string quartet, its a ding dang of a live experience.” - FR FB
I couldn’t find a good enough photo of their two-drummer setup so you get the press version but as long as you know that they have TWO drummers in sync all the time that make you go ‘WUT’ live, then you’re all set. Like EULA, I’d seen their name around and was glad to see them in person. This was Thursday, right? I was getting to maximum work all day, shows at night capacity but I really enjoyed the show..really enjoyed the ewi (clarinet and the number 27 were my two favorite things in middle school)…and really enjoyed the DJ who threw down some incredibly major old school R&B jams between sets. I’ve also included the pretty, acoustic version of their song “Just Woke Up” (Vimeo..weird) but the video I like better is right here if you’re feeling dirty/wanna get a little queasy
